Busted!

I received my first Australian speeding ticket yesterday, for doing 71kph in a 60kph zone on Sunday April 26, at 7:08am. Cost: $81.

That's a good photo, much better than the blurry ones Ontario sent out. Is it really that dark at 7am?

Try playing the Canadian card. Here they give a 15-20 kph buffer before ticketing. Also $81 for 11 kph is way too much. I think you'd only pay $43 here.

You appear to be on the wrong side of the road as well. I guess they let you off easy.

Seems like a bargain now that we've recieved his second speeding ticket - caught for doing 52 in a 40. Since it was a school zone it was $135.

Are Aussies known for this radar trap fascism? Were there at least some kids running around that could potentially have gotten hurt?

Yes, the whole country is covered in radar. The Aussies are so used to it that when the limit changes from 100km to 80km people slam on their brakes in the middle of the highway to get down to 80. Interestingly, we live in one of the more progressive states where you can get away with 10% over the limit. In some states, you get a ticket for 3km over....I guess we should be greatful we live in NSW.
